Black and white is an extremely adored color pairing in the world of sneakers these days, and why not? Offering a strong contrast between the two colors, their presence on a sneaker will always attract our attention. So, we decided to pair up this classic combination with a naturally exciting silhouette, the Air Jordan 4. Check out the result above and read more about our concept below.
Our concept comes in a black nubuck upper, with white leather detailing for the wings on both sides of the shoes, as well as on the netting, laces, TPU heel tab, and Jumpman branding. The upper is then paired with a black and white midsole, and a white outsole. Lastly, the shoes feature chrome detailing on the crowns, and grey lining on the tongue. In this sense, therefore, this colorway is reminiscent of the “Oreo” Air Jordan 4’s, but our choice to forgo the use of paint splattering on the soles, and instead of giving the sneaker some chrome and grey highlights, allows our silhouette as a whole to just look that bit smarter.
Our inspiration for this concept came from the Air Jordan 4’s richness in its details that are spotted around the shoe. From the wings to the netting, and the heel tab, the shoe has become the style icon it has thanks to all the different materials and intricacies present across the silhouette. Hence why, in order to show off its infamous assets, we decided to cover it in black and white, creating a strong contrast, highlighting the shape of the shoe. Particularly, the use of a durabuck upper in black gives the shoe a very dark base with no reflections or shadows, which therefore stands out particularly strongly against the white detailing, more so than the Air Jordan 4 “Oreo” which featured a full leather upper.
There is a popular debate over whether it is ever appropriate to wear sneakers in a formal setting. But if there was ever a pair of sneakers you could pair with a black tuxedo or dress, this would be it. The predominantly black upper would ensure that it wouldn’t stand out too much and that it would go with
the rest of the outfit, whilst the white and silver detailing would make sure your sneakers would be taking center stage no matter what else you had on.
