The Air Max 90 is a canvas for various masterpieces by sneaker concept artists and there appears to be no end in sight of the creativity that can manifest onto this silhouette. After the various matte black finishes we saw recently, artists are coming back to their roots and releasing colorways inspired by the OGs themselves that feature distinct color blockings and minor contrasting hits. This time, I present to you the bold Nike Air Max 90 Grey Voltage that is seemingly inspired by a number of old colorways and highly reminiscent of a particular one.
Since releasing in 1990, the Air Max 90 has been a fashion staple for many around the world particularly in Europe and North America. Its versatility offers the chance to wear them on a number of occasions whether it’s to the gym or when out and about with friends on the streets. This status has allowed the AM90 to remain a fan-favorite and a best-seller for Nike, bringing in tens of millions in profits ever since its conception. Today, there are so many colorways that it really is hard to keep track of, especially with the multiple new versions that release every month. Naturally, concept artists likely take inspiration from them for some of their work, including for the Air Max 90 Grey Voltage.
The upper dons a bold black and grey color scheme with vibrant Voltage yellow hits throughout for a stark yet aesthetically pleasing contrast. Mudguards feature jet black smooth leather that extends all the way to the heels of the sneakers, only disturbed by a small grey “Air Max” badge that’s barely visible against the dark overlays. Toe boxes feature a grey mesh material that we’ve seen on almost every other Air Max as well, separated by grey leather lower eye stays. Grey throats are enveloped by traditional black laces that pass through the sneaker’s matching Wolf Grey plastic eyelet panels. Tongues also wear grey tags with almost shimmering Voltage Yellow “Nike” branding that compliments the cropped side Swooshes.
This concept is highly reminiscent of the Air Max 90 PRM Glow In The Dark that’s almost identical with only a few exceptions such as the white mudguards, yellow eyelet panels, and heel tabs. Continuing onto the concept, grey midsoles with a Voltage Yellow block around the Air Unit and yellow outsoles complete the design. For more concept art such as this, stay tuned for more!
