The Air Jordan 4 has been on the rise in terms of popularity and value ever since the beginning of 2021. This rise can largely be attributed to the myriad of new colorways that Jordan Brand has been treating fans with including retros and OG colorways such as the Air Jordan 4 University Blue and the Air Jordan 4 Retro White Oreo, just to name a few. With this rise in excitement, concept artists have also hopped on to this rising wave of popularity and have released a plethora of original and adjusted colorways. This time, we present the Air Jordan 4 Yellow Shock that may be inspired by the recent Jordan 4 Retro Lightning!
The Jordan 4 silhouette was immensely popular following 1989 not only because it was a worthy successor to the Air Jordan 3, but it also presented the wearer with a sense of exclusivity. With its relatively high price tag at the time, premium calfskin leather, and an overall solid build, the AJ4 made a statement regarding what it takes to be a premium basketball sneaker, unmatchable at the time compared to the competition. Would you believe that at first in 1989, people thought the sneaker was ugly and would never gain the appreciation that it has today? The various new concepts however are a testament to how popular these sneakers have become.
The Air Jordan 4 Yellow Shock concept is eerily reminiscent of the recent Air Jordan 4 Lightning which was a retro of 2008’s Jordan 4 Lightning, a highly-sought-after sneaker that is still a valuable collector’s item today. This concept features much of the same design but with a more vibrant shade of yellow on the upper. “Yellow Shock” covers the uppers, including the mudguards, side panels, and the full-grain leather collars of the sneakers. Throats feature a matching Yellow Shock base with contrasting black netted mesh panels. Black laces provide a stark contrast and pass through the yellow leather eye stays and 4 customary metallic grey eyelet panels.
The design of these sneakers diverges from 2021’s Lightning colorway when it comes to the black midsoles, outsoles, and the shade of yellow on the upper. Coming back to the concept, throats transition into jet black tongues with titular tongue tags and black Jump-Man logos. The tongues complement the black interiors and heel tabs while netted mesh side panels match the throats and the triangular heel pieces on the sides. Jet-black midsoles and Yellow Shock outsoles finish off the design. For more brand-new concepts, stay tuned!
