Air Max 90 sneakers are on the rise relative to the Air Force 1, which is slightly falling off in popularity. That can be attributed to the better colorways that Nike has been releasing for this model, a lot of which are retros that sell out within minutes if not seconds. This is reflected in the higher frequency of the new Air Max 90 concept art, which is getting better and better over the years. This time, artists have outdone themselves yet again with this release that’s a mix of the revered “Varsity Red” colorway with black and white hits. Presenting, the Nike Air Max 90 White Varsity Red!
This design is likely to be one of the most popular, as it is quite similar to the Infrared colorway that Nike always restocks. If the Swoosh decides to release anything similar, you can bet it will be sold out in minutes. Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max III in the original “Infrared” hue, which is still a best-selling variant. That colorway has been seen on billboards, in music videos, and on the feet of celebrities like Rita Ora, John Mayer, LeBron James, and others. As a result, we feel that this concept is a better version of prior iterations, similar to the previous concepts that are reminiscent of the Infrared.
The Air Max 90 White Varsity Red features a mix of black, white, and Varsity Red hues with black leather appearing on the toes. Meanwhile, a clean white leather appears on the mudguards that extends all the way to the rears and is disturbed by a small “Air Max” tag with embossed branding, however, due to the lack of contrast, it is barely, if at all, visible. That may be a flaw in design but we believe that everything else is completely on point.
Mesh appears on the black toe boxes, matching the similarly constructed collars. The lower eye stays are black leather while black plastic appears on the side eye panels. Black throats and laces lead up to black tongues with matching tags that are detailed by Varsity Red “Nike Air” branding. Red sock liners and interiors complement the rest of the sneaker while the rears feature black heel tabs, possibly with additional red embossed branding. Sides feature cropped red leather Swooshes while crisp white midsoles with black Air Units and white midsoles finish off the design. For more concept art such as this, stick around!
