Ever since this year’s Nike Air Max day, an event now slowly disappearing in our rear-view mirror, we have seen more and more Air Max hit the streets – and the ‘gram. A sight welcomed by many sneakerheads and Nike Air Max enthusiasts alike, seeing as how the shoe game has been vastly dominated in recent years by Nike x Jordan Brand and Kanye’s, Yeezy brand. Before hype was a thing, the Nike Air Max range was the most sought-after sneaker by all. The innovative air bubble technology integrated within the midsole, is a concept which revolutionised the kick game for years to come. Here we take a look at the latest custom example by ‘Sneakerz’, the new Nike Air Max 90 ‘Crimson Slate’. The Air Max 90 is amongst the top contenders and big fan-favorite within Nike’s Air Max range. Originally released in 1990, as the name would suggest, the Nike Air Max 90 was effectively the brands second release after the flagship Nike Air Max 1.
The Nike Air Max 90 ‘Crimson Slate’ arrives with two tone colour blocking and unique detailing, never seen before on the retro silhouette. The upper is predominately dark grey, made from traditional cotton meshing, nubuck side panels and rubber lace tabs. The foregrounding feature of this sneaker however, has to be the bright crimson red accents that burst out from the dark slate grey backing. Crimson red hues can be found on the tongue detailing, inner ankle lining, and traditional ‘Air Max’ logo, situated on the rear side panel. Furthermore, this custom mock up showcases a unique rose-style pattern within the side Nike swoosh as well as the rubber midsole segment which surrounds the air unit. A feature alone, that has the power to seriously turn some heads.
Although this is just a mock-up, Nike brand have started to experiment more and more with their NikeID program, which allows customers to fully customize their kicks. With new popular silhouette’s, such as the Dunk Low, being added to this feature, it wouldn’t be too absurd to consider a custom Nike Air Max 90 within the near future! Watch this space.
