Nike has long been paying homage to Chinese culture. Likely due to the fact that such a large portion of their revenue comes from the region. However, concept artists too, likely inspired by the arrays of Chinese-inspired sneakers have come up with their own design. Presenting, the Air Force 1 China Town!
The Air Force 1 released in 1982 initially, designed by Bruce Kilgore. This special sneaker was the very first to feature Nike Air technology in any shoe. Even before the iconic Air Max 90.
This silhouette was so popular that after being discontinued in 1984, had to be reintroduced in 1986. Fully due to popular demand. People just couldn’t get enough of the Air Force 1.
Owing to the popularity, various artists also began reimagining classic colorways. Turning them into something entirely new.
As a result, we continue to see arrays of new concept art on the Air Force 1 Lows. Such as the recent and polarising Air Force 1 Low Pink Volt.
On the other hand, various Chinese-inspired AF1s have also been released by Nike and they’re very popular. Like the Air Force 1 Low Chinese New Year (2019).
This time, concept artists have come up with their very own Chinese-inspired AF1 in the Air Force 1 Low China Town!
Featuring bold color tones, this AF1 primary dons a matte black leather upper. Providing a suitable base for the contrasting overlays and the Chinese-inspired graphics.
Black leather covers the perforated toe boxes and side panels. While also leading up the throats that are wrapped in plain black laces. Speaking of which, the laces feature a blazing red deubrés on each sneaker, attached to the bottom laces.
Appearing on the blazing red tongue tags is additonal “Nike Air” branding. This relatively blacked-out theme continues onto the sock liners and interiors. However, that’s where it ends.
Scuff guards and rear panels feature deep red leather while the side panels likely feature the highlight of this concept. Embroidered red stitching of “Lung”, a legendary Chinese Dragon, appears on the side panels. A representation of good luck, strength, and health.
Lateral Swooshes feature dark yellow leather while deep maroon outsoles finish off the design.
The Air Force 1 China Town is aesthetically reminiscent of the AF1 Low LeBron James Warrior. However, diverges significantly when it comes to the materials.
