It appears that concept art designers have taken a serious liking to matte black finishes in recent times, appearing back-to-back on multiple sneakers, and fortunately, we’re all for it! Introducing, the beaming Nike Air Max 90 “Volt Green”!
The AM 90s have been played around with by a lot by artists and for good reason. These kicks are iconic, having transcended sportswear and being firmly embedded within the world of fashion and streetwear.
Created by Tinker Hatfield in 1990, this silhouette was partly inspired by the Pompidou Centre in Paris, a feature that’s reflected onto the sneaker’s striking curves and edges.
It’s no wonder that so many concepts of the AM 90s exist regardless of its already diverse portfolio of colorways. However, the Air Max 90 “Volt Green” does a better job than most black/green colourways that Nike has already introduced such as the Famed KAWS x Air Max 90 Black Volt.
Just as the Air Max 90 Volt Orange concept, this design starts off with a sleek matte black finish that shrouds most the upper in blissful darkness.
Black leather overlays cover the panels on the lateral sides while also appearing on the mudguards and the plain black scuff-guards. The toe boxes feature mesh panels that only differ in texture to the rest of the upper while also appearing on the collars.
Black throats are wrapped up in black traditional laces that sit between matte black plastic eyelet panels on each side.
The throats merge with Neon Green “Nike Air” branded tongues, a hue that’s used sparsely on the rest of the sneaker but just enough to keep things interesting.
Sock liners and interiors also feature the aforementioned neon colour for a subtle contrast. More boldly appearing on the cropped leather Swooshes on the lateral sides of the sneakers.
In typical fashion, these Air Max 90s include a tiny embossed “Air Max” tag in a matching green color, sitting right above the matte black midsoles with exposed Air Units surrounded by more neon green color blocking. Lastly, black rugged outsoles finish off the design.
If you’re interested in picking up a similarly styled pair, check out the Nike Air Max 90 “Black Volt”. Although it’s not as bold and scintillating as this masterful concept, it might just be close enough.
