Nike has released arrays of Air Max 90 colorways but too few have rocked bold color tones that might have been enshrined in the memories of fans for ages. Concept artists, however, have outdone themselves yet again with this masterful Air Max 90. Presenting, the Nike Air Max 90 Volt Yellow.
Released in 1990 and designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max 90 is considered to be one of the greatest sneakers ever made. That’s partly due to the ingenuity that went into creating this shoe and also because of its impact on fashion and sneaker culture.
The Air Max 90 paved the way for Nike to enter markets it had never entered before. Soon after conception, this sneaker was a fan-favorite in many European countries including Russia. As a result, customizers and concept artists all over the world began experimenting with this iconic silhouette.
Interestingly, a matte black finish is proving to be ever-popular among artists and it appears once again on this Air Max 90 concept, delivering yet another bold statement.
Most of this shoe dons a black leather upper with an alluring matte black finish, the likes of which we’ve seen various times in recent memory. The rest of the sneaker follows a similar route to the AM90 Volt Orange, however, swaps out the orange for a vibrant yellow hue.
Black leather scuff-guards sit below black mesh toe boxes that also appear around the collars. Black eye guards are covered with plastic eye stay panels that surround the traditional black laces and throats.
This leads up to a pair of black tongues with Volt Yellow “Nike Air” branding. A subtle contrast that continues onto the sock liners and grows ever bolder onto the interiors.
On the lateral sides, contrasting cropped leather Swooshes appear to be nestled under the black leather mudguards that also feature a Volt Yellow Air Max tag.
Underfoot, black midsoles feature exposed Air Units with more Volt Yellow hits. Finally, black rugged outsoles for improved traction completes the look.
This concept is highly reminiscent of the Undefeated X Air Max 90 Optic Yellow. A sneaker that features identical hues, however, differs when it comes to the yellow Swooshes and the matte finish. I still highly recommend checking them out if you’re digging this concept.
