For our OG followers and long-term readers, this shoe may be somewhat reminiscent of a mock-up in the past, and you’d be right! This week’s all-new release is none other than the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Luck of the Irish’, a sneaker which shares similarities with the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Volt Slate’, a custom mock up sneaker that we featured earlier this year. Although the shoe shares a similar color palette, the similarities stop there, as the design, detail and colorblocking are all completely different. The previous rendition showcases unique pattern work, whilst the latest model keeps things cool, calm and collected. Here we take a closer look.
The all-new Nike Air Max 90 ‘Luck of the Irish’ arrives with a colorblocking sequence that is arguably the best on the 90’s silhouette. A color-blocking sequence similar to other highly acclaimed models such as the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Infrared’. As the name would suggest, the Nike Air Max 90 ‘Luck of the Irish’ showcases a predominantly green colorway. In fact, there are a total of 4 different hue’s of green which can be found around the shoe, we can’t help but feel as though this is a nod to traditional Irish anecdote of the lucky four leaf clover. A clever addition to say the least. The upper sees a dark green and almost anthracite grey base, covering the toe-box, leather side panels, lacing, ankle meshing and side Air Max logo. The fundamental ‘wow factor’ of the sneaker has to be the volt green accents which are showcased throughout the shoe. The Nike side swoosh, inner ankle lining and Nike Air branding on the tongue all showcase the volt green hits.
The lower half of the sneaker also follows suit, both the midsole and outsole continue the base dark green/grey hue. However the surrounding area around the signature Air Unit within the midsole, features the volt green hue. Leaving the shoe with serious nostalgic vibes, often seen on some of the greatest Nike Air Max 90 editions. We can’t help but feel as though the all-new Nike Air Max 90 ‘Luck of the Irish’ is going to seriously turn some heads, but is there more to come? Watch this space.
