Pictured above is our latest Air Max 90 concept that follows much more of a standard color blocking for the sneaker. That being said, our creation has a subtle influence that we think makes it perfect for this summer.
The shoe comes dressed in a white mesh, with a black leather overlay around the midfoot, and a dark blue leather mudguard circling the entire upper. Red accents on the TPU overlays, and the Nike tick adds a contrast to the darker colors on the upper. The midsole is then white, as an Air Max 90’s midsole traditionally is, but is paired with a red outsole and a red TPU overlay around the Nike Air bubble. Overall, the shoe’s use of classic colors and a classic silhouette gives it a vintage look, that would make it look great not only when it’s new, but also once it’s picked up a few scuffs and creases.
This is the perfect time for such a sneaker to release with the Olympics just around the corner. Originally scheduled for 2020, the Tokyo Olympics have been postponed to late July/ August 2021. Nike is the kit provider for the US team, so it only makes sense that they provide US-themed sneakers that the athletes could wear. This is where our Air Max 90 comes in, as we think it’s red, white, and blue theme would be the ideal Nike sneaker for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. With that being said, Nike has already decided the Nike VaporMax 2020 will be worn by US athletes on the podium. So, the black leather on the shoe might mean that it could also work as a sneaker for South Korean athletes, who are also sponsored by Nike.
Now, Nike already created an Air Max 90 USA colorway last year, but the problem is wearing something that resembles the US flag on your shoe isn’t particularly stylish. Instead, we have created a similar colorway, that uses the same traditional colors for such a shoe, but with a more subtle layout. This is less a patriotic sneaker to show your affiliation, and more a stylish sneaker that would match with the Nike USA tracksuits issued in time for the Olympics. This is particularly thanks to the use of black leather around the midfoot, a color that doesn’t feature on the US flag, but also makes the shoe easier to pair with other clothes.
